Forklift Motors
Buying a forklift is not to be taken lightly. A forklift is a large capital expense, and a complex machine with a motor strong enough to execute heavy-lifting jobs. The price tag for a forklift ranges from $10,000 to $30,000, comparable to the cost of a small truck. If buying a second-hand forklift, be certain to have it checked for potential mechanical issues.
The two types of forklift motors are: electric or internal combustion. Forklifts with electric motors are usually more expensive than forklifts with internal combustion motors. The size of the motor must suit the type of work for which the forklift will be utilized. A forklift with a motor which is large costs a lot more than one with a smaller motor.
Motors that use gasoline or propane can lift heavier weights as they are normally stronger than electric motor. The downside is that gas motors tend to develop problems more often compared to electric motors. Depending on the price of propane or gas, gas powered forklifts could be more costly to run compared to electric powered forklifts.
Some reliable manufacturers of forklifts are Crown Equipment Corp., Mitsubishi Caterpillar, Toyota Industries and NACCO Industries. Prior to making a decision, research the different manufacturers and the availability of parts. Reviews, testimonials and prices could be found on-line.
