There are many kinds of forklifts which are powered by propane gas. Propane-powered forklifts are easy to refill. The gas is stored in a pressurized tank on the truck's rear. The propane is pushed into the engine, where it is converted into vapor and the vapor combines with air. The throttle of the forklift is utilized to be able to control the flow of vapor. A spark plug fires up the vapor and air mixture producing pressure that moves the pistons. The pistons run the hydraulic pump and turn the wheels.

Propane powered forklifts are suggested for use within warehouses and other buildings because they are clean burning with low emissions.

Hydraulics
What allows a forklift to raise and transport heavy objects from one place to another is the hydraulic system. Cylinders, a pump and tubes make up the hydraulic system. The pump forces dense fluid through the tubing and into the cylinders. The build up of pressure pushes a piston, which lifts the forks. When the operator lowers the forks, the hydraulic fluid flows out of the cylinders and back in the pump.

Steering
Where maneuverability is needed, propane forklifts are the most suitable. Unlike a car, a forklift uses its rear wheels to turn, which enables the forklift to quickly turn on a tight radius.
