Solid Lift Truck Tire Safety
About 200 deaths each and every year are a result of accidents that involve forklifts, or lift trucks. Correct inspection and maintenance of forklift tires can truly help to reduce the risk of accidents.

Pre-Work Inspection
Prior to the beginning of every shift, the tires on the lift truck should be checked for indications of damage and wear. The air pressure inside the tires needs to be checked to ensure the pressure is not too low. Low tire pressure could make the machinery prone to tip-overs when lifting loads.

Types of Tires
The selection of tire type should be based on the kind of surface wherein the lift truck will be utilized. For indoor applications, lift trucks with solid rubber tires are best. For smoother surfaces, tires tend to be smaller. Larger pneumatic tires are best for lift trucks being used outdoors. Pneumatic tires can grip well on surfaces which are rough because they are air-filled and have a rubber tread.

Other Considerations
Based on OSHA guidelines, all lift trucks need some continual daily and some periodic inspection which is carried out every shift. The tires should be inspected again for any indication of damage, such as wear or cuts.

Lift truck Safety
If you or your employees will be utilizing forklifts, proper training in lift truck safety is essential. Forklift mishaps can lead to serious personal injuries or death and cause unmanageable financial difficulty. Even minor mishaps could cost you and your business money if the merchandise or the forklift are damaged during a mishap. Be certain you are well informed concerning forklift safety problems.
