Forklift Classifications
Below are the classes of forklifts which describe the use and fuel choice of each kind of forklift. Certification is really required for each class of forklift that the operator would be using.
Class 1 - Electric Motor Rider Trucks
These forklifts are available with either pneumatic tires or cushion tires. Pneumatic tires are recommended in dry conditions for outdoor use. The cushion tired models are made for indoor surfaces which are smooth. These are electrically powered vehicles which utilize industrial batteries, which make them desirable inside closed environments where the quality of air is an issue. Hoist functions and travel are controlled by transistor motor controllers. These are versatile units usually utilized everywhere from storage facility to the loading dock.
Class 2 - Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks
For the type of environment where narrow aisles should be negotiated, this specific kind of forklift is suitable. They are efficient at maximizing the use of storage space. Their unique design makes them perfect for small spaces and where speed is needed.
Class 3 - Electric Motor Hand or Hand-Rider Trucks
These battery-powered, hand-controlled models are intended for the operator to stand in front of the truck and control the lift with a steering tiller. The tiller has controls mounted on top and is moved laterally to maneuver the vehicle. The units which have smaller capacity use industrial batteries.
